Vanessa Anne Hudgens a grandi à San Diego. Elle a des origines philippines, chinoises et latines du coté de sa mère, irlandaises et amérindiennes du coté de son père. Son amour pour la musique et le théâtre lui vient de ses grands-parents, qui étaient musiciens.

Elle commence sa carrière de musicienne théâtrale à 8 ans, en jouant dans des pièces comme Le Magicien d'Oz, Evita, Carousel ou Cendrillon. Après le déménagement de sa famille à Los Angeles, elle multiplie les petits rôles: dans Thirteen, Thunderbirds ou quelques séries télévisées, comme La Vie de palace de Zack et Cody où elle rencontre Ashley Tisdale ce qui lui permet de décrocher le rôle principal féminin du téléfilm de Disney Channel, High School Musical: Premiers Pas sur scène. Elle a aussi sorti un album solo nommé "V" en référence a la célèbre lettre ...
